Real Time Data Data Portal Ocean Observing Resources About CIMT | Directory | Feedback Form (disabled) | CIMT Work Room | Ocean Observing System for Monterey Bay Linking new technologies and data across disciplines of marine science to address key questions for the enjoyment, management and conservation of California coastal marine resources. **Please note that as of July 31st 2008, the CIMT website will no longer be updated. The Center for Integrated Marine Technologies (CIMT) has been a non-operational program since 8-1-2007 and as of 7-31-2008 the program will be ending. We hope that you will find this static page a useful reference of the many ocean observing activities that have occurred over the past six years. There are still many useful links including the historical CIMT database and informational fact sheets. Some of CIMT’s research programs and products will continue through the Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) http://www.cencoos.org , as well as through the ongoing research of its principal investigators. Over the past six years of the Center for Integrated Marine Technologies, many marine scientists came together from many different disciplines and institutions to focus their efforts on observations directed towards understanding the highly productive central California upwelling system These research efforts tackled a diverse set of observational questions and issues, ranging from how to monitor coastal ocean currents, to determining the occurrence and distribution of harmful algal blooms, as well as documenting how marine mammals and sea birds respond to the distribution of prey species, and how satellite data can helps us to understand the dynamics of coastal upwelling. Thank you to all the collaborators, researchers, staff, faculty, students and volunteers, who have helped make the CIMT program possible. As a result of 6 years of nearly continuous coastal ocean observations we now have a much clearer idea how this complex and highly productive coastal ocean environment operates and also have the technology and visualization tools available to apply this approach to other areas, develop products for user groups, as well as provide information to the general public. We are excited about the possibilities of future research and new discoveries and will continue to work towards our common goal a permanent ocean monitoring program to help us achieve a healthy and sustainable coastal ocean. Funding provided by NOAA 8/2002-8/2007 and CeNCOOS during 2006-2007 in support of U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System.
